Chaiz is a car warranty marketplace that offers a low-pressure and high-transparency purchase experience for drivers wanting mechanical protection.
- You can compare multiple warranty companies at once on Chaiz
- Chaiz doesn’t administer vehicle service contracts, but can help resolve coverage issues
- Chaiz quotes include sample contracts, liability limits, and benefit limits to compare providers apples-to-apples
Even if you want a vehicle service contract, robocalls and convoluted fine print might make you think twice. Chaiz lets you skip these issues by comparing prices for multiple companies without providing personal info. You can see sample plans and company reputation scores at the same time, which we think is really helpful. So, should you use Chaiz?
At Consumer Review Center, we’ve reviewed over 20 vehicle warranty companies and compared them on things like cost, coverage, and plans. We use this industry data to evaluate Chaiz, though you’ll see that Chaiz is a different type of company. For this review, we also corresponded with Erick Fettingis, SVP of Customer Experience at Chaiz, and you’ll see some of his quotes below. Let’s dive in.
What Is Chaiz?
Chaiz is an online marketplace for third-party vehicle service contracts (which are commonly called extended warranties). Chaiz partners with many companies so customers can compare coverage options and pricing in one place. Just like Kayak lets you compare multiple airlines, Chaiz lets you compare multiple warranty companies.
Chaiz provides the purchase experience but doesn’t administer plans (pay for claims) itself. Whichever warranty company you choose manages that. The main benefit of using Chaiz is being able to compare multiple options in a low-pressure way and view pricing and contract information before you buy.
Chaiz Certified vs. Chaiz Partners
You’ll find two kinds of warranty companies that sell plans through Chaiz: Chaiz Certified and Chaiz Partners. Both types of providers have been vetted by Chaiz for service, consistency, and financial stability. Chaiz Partners satisfy extra verification requirements and have higher integration with the Chaiz platform. Here’s a basic comparison:
| Chaiz Certified | Chaiz Partners | |
|---|---|---|
| Reputation | Meets service, consistency, and financial stability standards | Meets higher standards for customer satisfaction (BBB, Google), backed by insurers rated A- minimum, and displays live prices |
| Chaiz platform flow | Customers compare plans on Chaiz, but usually complete the purchase on the provider’s site | Customers compare plans and purchase directly through Chaiz |
| Chaiz review level | Has Chaiz Provider Score based on transparency and reliability factors | Has Chaiz Experts Review ratings for specific plans, plus the overall Chaiz Provider Score |
Chaiz also maintains a database of providers that are not certified by Chaiz, so you can compare other companies you might come across in the industry. Their plans aren’t available on Chaiz.
What Makes Chaiz Different?
Chaiz offers some unique benefits compared to buying a warranty from an online provider or dealership directly.
See Multiple Plans With Details
Instead of going to four different sites and entering personal information each time, you can enter vehicle information once and see plans from multiple providers. The plans clearly display sample contracts, benefits with limitations, repair shop network, upgrades, and even limits of liability.
We’ve reviewed a lot of extended warranty contracts, and you usually have to sift through pages of fine print to find the limits of liability in particular. It’s nice to see this information displayed right at the start.
Erick had this to say on the topic of choosing a plan:
“My advice is simple: use your 30-day money-back guarantee period, read your policy, and if possible, review a sample contract before you buy. What an agent says and what a policy actually covers can be two very different things. At Chaiz, we don’t have a sales team, we have a support team. We’re here to educate, not oversell.”
No Personal Info Needed To Check Prices
All you need to provide to compare quotes is your vehicle information and state. You don’t have to enter your contact information to see a price. This means you won’t get robocalls or a dozen emails if you just want to compare prices.
Access Plans Beyond Online Providers
Typically, if you want to buy an extended warranty on a car you already have, you can:
- Shop from warranty companies that sell to customers online (like Endurance or Toco Warranty)
- See if your car qualifies for factory extended warranties through your local dealership
Chaiz opens up a third option: warranty companies that sell through dealers only. Some of these companies are working with Chaiz to offer plans directly to customers, which means you have more options for coverage. Finding the right plan is all about comparing options, so this is a good benefit to have.
Chaiz Shopping Experience
1. Enter Vehicle Information
2. View Instant Quotes
Next, you’ll see quotes for multiple plans (we found about a dozen plans in total from five providers for each vehicle). You can scroll through the plans or filter plans based on:
- Chaiz Expert Rating
- Coverage level
- Monthly price
- Add-ons
- Mileage
- Duration
- Provider
Click on a plan to see complete details, including what’s listed below.
Pricing Information
- Monthly price
- Deductible
- Plan duration (customizable depending on provider)
- Mileage covered (also customizable depending on provider)
- Available add-ons and price (like commercial use, enhanced electronics, lift kit, hybrid battery, or emissions components)
- Cancellation and money-back guarantee information
Coverage Information
- Chaiz Experts Review score: Rates the specific plan you see for value and exclusions (if applicable for the provider)
- Highlights: Points out things like maintenance coverage or good value
- Coverage: Notes the overall coverage level (Best, Basic Plus, Basic) and provides a visual for different system coverage
- Additional coverage options: Plan-specific options like lift kit, rideshare, oversized vehicle, and more
- Included benefits: Notes whether the plan comes with roadside assistance, rental car coverage, trip interruption, or maintenance, and includes the limits for each benefit
- Limits of liability: Provides the maximum payout per claim and over the life of the contract for the plan, may also show limits by system (like transmission) if available
About the Provider
You’ll also see a provider section including:
- Chaiz Certified or Chaiz Partner status
- How to file a claim with that specific provider
- Reputation data like BBB score, claims paid, financial strength rating, and claim approval rate
- Transferability and repair shop network info
We appreciate that Chaiz normalizes plans between providers. In other words, you can look across plans and quickly see that one might include maintenance while another doesn’t. It’s harder to see these differences when comparing quotes one by one.
3. Continue to Checkout
After finding a plan you like, you can move on to the purchase step. If the company has full integration with Chaiz, you’ll complete the checkout without leaving Chaiz. Simply add your contact information, some more vehicle details, and payment information.
If the provider isn’t integrated with Chaiz, you’ll complete the purchase on the provider’s site. The basics are pretty much the same.
Chaiz Warranty Coverage
Since Chaiz offers plans from many companies, it simplifies coverage into three categories:
- Best: These plans are similar to factory bumper-to-bumper warranties since they cover almost any breakdown except for a list of excluded parts and types of damage. They’re also called exclusionary warranties for this reason.
- Basic Plus: These plans are mid-level contracts that can cover multiple systems like the engine, steering, brakes, electrical, air conditioning, and more. You might find a wider variation between companies offering plans in this range, since one company might cover seven systems and another one covers nine.
- Basic: This type of plan might cover just the powertrain (engine, transmission, and drive axle), or it could cover a few more things like suspension and steering. Either way, it’s usually the most affordable option, especially if your car has a lot of miles.
Individual companies might call their plans by different names, like Supreme or Powertrain Plus. You’ll see the company’s plan name as well as the Chaiz coverage level on each quote. This also makes it easier to compare one company’s mid-level plan to another’s.
In our experience, the price difference between exclusionary and mid-level isn’t so huge, and it can be smart to get more comprehensive coverage when you can. In Erick’s words:
“If it fits your budget and your vehicle qualifies, exclusionary coverage is almost always the best option. It typically reduces claim denials and provides customers with greater long-term peace of mind.”
Chaiz Example Quotes
You can find a wide range of costs on Chaiz since it works with multiple companies. Our shopping showed prices from $61 to $176 per month, depending on the vehicle and provider. You may find very different rates for your car, so treat these numbers as estimates.
We looked at pricing on Chaiz for four vehicles:
- 2023 Toyota RAV4 with 55,000 miles
- 2021 Ford F-150 with 60,000 miles
- 2020 BMW 330i with 60,000 miles
- 2019 Honda CRV with 100,000 miles
For all vehicles, we found that the same providers and plans were available, but the plan terms changed slightly, and the pricing also varied. As we expected, plans are more expensive for luxury vehicles and for cars with 100k miles or more. This follows what you’d see from warranty companies, dealers, or manufacturers in the industry.
Here’s a breakdown by vehicle:
| Provider | Term | Coverage Level | RAV4 Monthly $ | F-150 Monthly $ | CRV Monthly $ | 330i Monthly $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omega Auto Care | 3+ yr/100k mi | Best Coverage | $94 | $96 | $101 | $176 |
| Capital Auto Protection Services | 3+ yr/54k mi | Best Coverage | $67 | $67 | $80 | $132 |
| Omega Auto Care | 3+ yr/100k mi | Best Coverage | $96 | $98 | $103 | $178 |
| Capital Auto Protection Services | 3+ yr/54k mi | Best Coverage | $65 | $65 | $78 | $126 |
| Express Service Protection | 3+ yr/100k mi | Basic Plus | $65 | $70 | $66 | $97 |
| Omega Auto Care | 3+ yr/100k mi | Basic Plus | $87 | $90 | $92 | $138 |
| Capital Auto Protection Services | 3+ yr/100k mi | Basic Plus | $65 | $65 | $72 | $97 |
| Capital Auto Protection Services | 3+ yr/100k mi | Basic Coverage | $61 | $61 | $67 | $86 |
How Do Claims Work With Chaiz?
Claims work with Chaiz exactly like they work with the warranty provider you choose. In other words, you file a claim directly with the warranty company, not Chaiz. Chaiz provides detailed information on how to file a claim, which usually includes:
- Finding an authorized repair center according to the warranty
- Having the repair center contact the warranty company
- Paying your deductible and anything the warranty doesn’t cover to the repair shop
Instant Online Quotes
- Compare multiple providers at once in 30 seconds
- Quote and buy online, save up to 60%
- Rated A+ by BBB
- 30-day money-back guarantee
Chaiz Reviews From Customers
Chaiz has an A+ rating with accreditation from the BBB, and it has a 3.7-star rating from customer reviews on the site. Chaiz also has a 4.9-star rating from reviewers on Trustpilot. Looking at trends, most customers have a great experience with the site and appreciate the wide range of plan options.
The negative reviews we found stemmed from customers having repairs denied. The warranty provider, not Chaiz, manages coverage, but the situation can still be frustrating. Perhaps the warranty company failed to explain all exclusions, or the customer had different expectations for whatever reason. Unfortunately, misunderstandings are common in the industry. According to Erick,
“Anytime a company uses phrases like ‘everything,’ ‘all,’ or ‘100% covered,’ that should be a red flag. Not even a new-car manufacturer’s warranty covers everything. Even ‘bumper-to-bumper’ is a marketing phrase people misunderstand. It has never included literally everything from bumper to bumper.”
All that said, representatives at Chaiz do help out when they can. Erick shared a story where a customer reached out because their claim was denied. Chaiz was able to help them find other repair shops to inspect the breakdown and ultimately get the claim approved. So, even though Chaiz doesn’t administer claims directly, customers can reach out for help.
Bottom Line on Chaiz
How We Rank Extended Warranty Providers
We take a methodical approach to rating warranty companies. Here’s what that includes:
- Coverage: We consider things like the number of plans, mileage limit, maintenance coverage options, and added benefits to score companies in this area.
- Cost and buying experience: We get quotes from providers and pay attention to the experience with customer service. We also consider a company’s transparency during the buying process through sample contracts and clear coverage descriptions.
- Reputation: This category includes a company’s longevity plus its rating on the BBB and whether or not it has BBB accreditation.
- Customer service: To rate customer service, we look at BBB customer ratings plus Trustpilot scores. We also note whether the company is a direct warranty provider.
